Our Animation

Hey Room 4 friends! Today we learned how to make our digital farm animals take their very first steps in the walking lesson. First, we built our cute hen using circles and triangles, and created the farm dog with rectangles and a circle—the key trick was to group all the shapes for each animal so they move as one piece! Once your hen and dog were grouped and standing ready on the left side of the screen, you hit the Record Button (the red circle), carefully moved the hen one tiny step to the right, immediately moved the dog one tiny step right, and quickly pressed the Stop Button (the white square) to capture that perfect little movement, setting the stage for a full animated walk sequence!

Respect

Welcome to our class blog! We hope that you enjoy watching our movie about Respect. Room 4 shares what respect means to them at Ruapotaka School. Our tamariki have worked really hard to put this altogether for you to watch so please enjoy the movie and feel free to leave us a positive comment.

Term 4 Week 1 update

Kia ora whanau,

We had a fantastic start to Term 4 and we had our certificate winners for Week 1.

Congratulations Jordan, Zharia, Benjamin and Stanley for being exceptional this week. Way to go!

…and we also received the Tidy Kiwi award for Room 4! Woohoo!

P.S: This term as the days get hotter and sunnier, please remember to apply sunscreen on your child before they come to school. We will have swimming days on Monday and Thursday, so please send the swimming togs, wet bag, and towel. Please label their belongings. Thank you for your support.

Our trip to MOTAT

Kia ora whānau,

We had such great fun at MOTAT. Following our focus in technology this term, Junior school went on a trip to MOTAT. Children had an exposure to a variety of technological innovation and how they evolved over the years. We went on a bus and then explored the MOTAT area such as Science, library, technology such as old phones. We then gathered to gain some educational knowledge and had hands on experience with marble run. Children were using their judgements, experimenting with gravity and connecting the tracks to create their own marble run. Finally we had our exciting journey on the tram before we boarded the bus to return to our school. We thank our amazing parents/ whānau for their support to make this trip possible.

Our Helpful Robots on EE

Today in Cybersmart, we made some cool helpful Robots. Since we are exploring how Technology impacts and helps us, we decided to create some of our own. We found it a lot of fun,  but also it was a challenge to get our robots just the way we wanted them. Our focus was using shapes and adding different colours and adding their parts.

The Duffy Show

Room 4 had so much fun at the Duffy show today! Duffy and Scruffy were so silly, and the “Awesome Adventure” was full of giggles. We loved Duffy’s Aunty’s bright yellow outfit and The evil ‘ Gran’ma Jo super-silly cow costume.

The show made us so excited about reading and all the wonderful places books can take us. We learned that every time we open a book, we’re starting a new adventure!

Thank you, Duffy, for the show and for our brand-new books! We can’t wait to read them.

Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki ‘Airani – Cook Islands Māori Language Week 2025

Kia Orana!

This week, Ruapotaka School has been buzzing with excitement as we celebrate Cook Islands Māori Language Week, or Te Reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani, for 2025! It’s a special time for us to honour and embrace the rich culture and language of the Cook Islands.

The school has been beautifully decorated, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The entranceway is adorned with colorful pareu (sarongs) featuring traditional floral patterns, and a table is set up with woven hats, baskets, and fresh flower leis. The decorations proudly display the Cook Islands flag and posters celebrating the theme of the week.

In our classrooms, students have been engaging in activities that connect them to the language and customs. A special assembly saw some of our senior students and a teacher, all wearing beautiful floral headpieces (ei katu), lead a presentation. It’s fantastic to see our young people taking pride in their heritage and sharing it with their peers.

This week is not just about learning words; it’s about connecting with the heart of a culture. It’s a time to celebrate our diverse community and the unique identity that each of our students brings to Ruapotaka School.

A big meitaki ma’ata (thank you very much) to everyone who has contributed to making this week such a memorable and educational experience!
